Goal:
To provide opportunities for women and minorities
that prepare them for a variety of leadership roles in higher
education
Objectives:
- To develop leadership skills through theory, application,
and practice in the fields of:
- Organizational theory
- Leadership theory
- Human development theory
- To create networks of support and communication for participants
- To communicate to ISU administration the benefits of the
inclusion of women and minorities in leadership roles
- To develop a pool of individuals to help meet future leadership
needs of Iowa State University
- To develop linkages through shared resources, planning,
and joint activities with other leadership programs, i.e.
the DEO program
Some of this project's activities are:
- Convene an intensive workshop for individuals willing to
commit and actively participate in the proposed leadership
project;
- Form issue-centered learning teams that will implement
an action plan;
- Develop and implement a pilot project based on shared leadership
that addresses goals stated in the Iowa State University (ISU)
Strategic Plan and implement a plan to measure effectiveness
of the pilot project;
- Convene a workshop early in 2001 to network the learning
teams one at the end of year one to share learnings and create
opportunities to influence shared leadership at ISU
Outcomes:
- Participants will increase their leadership skills, as well
as an understanding of organizational, leadership, and human
development theory.
- Participants will practice their new skills through project
implementation and new leadership opportunities.
- Participants will have a network for support and communication.
ISU administration and departmental chairs will have a pool
of women and minorities who are available for leadership assignments
and opportunities.
- Participants will be in visible leadership roles, either
formal or informal, in this institution or other institutions
