Engagement Among Higher Education Institutions
The partnership building efforts of South Carolina Alliance 2020 are helping faculty, staff, administrators and students from Clemson University, South Carolina State University and the 16 technical colleges in the South Carolina State Technical College System to work together like never before. Projects undertaken have ranged from setting up computer learning centers in rural communities to strengthening articulation models between South Carolina's community colleges and universities. This collaboration is a model for institutions of higher learning looking to become more engaged with their community.

Engagement with Local Communities
South Carolina Alliance 2020 has funded an innovative diabetes screening, awareness, and treatment program. Clemson University nursing, food science, and nutrition faculty are working together with nursing faculty from Tri-County Technical College to assist members of a local community suffering from diabetes learn more about the causes and management of their disease. Many of the program's clients are uninsured and could not otherwise afford the services offered through the program. This program also enlists volunteer support from Clemson undergraduates majoring in food science and nutrition and Clemson and Tri-County Technical College undergraduate students in nursing to help them get hands-on experience in the medical and counseling field.

Alliance 2020 Vision:

In  the year 2020, all communities in South Carolina are linked by a network of bridges, firmly anchored on strong supports and arching over waters that might otherwise engulf them.

Open access to these bridges ensures a solid linkage between past and future, local communities and the global village, rich and poor, urban and rural, into one healthy community of individuals empowered to lead rewarding and productive lives.

Leadership in the development of the bridge system was and is provided by the partner institutions of Alliance 2020, which continues to develop new bridges across other gulfs that reach to yet more distant horizons.
