Visions for Change
University of Minnesota, Visions for ChangeRegional Student Leadership Development Network Over the course of two semesters, students from the 1862 land grant universities in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota participate in four three-day experiences that explore the differences among urban, rural and global food systems. This program takes students to farms, Indian reservations, inner city community centers, alternative healthcare clinics and the floor of the Grain Exchange across the three states, as well as an international adventure to a country like Costa Rica or Mexico. This program -- through an innovative, experiential curriculum -- develops leadership and critical thinking skills, the ability to understand and relate to other cultures (domestically and internationally) and exposes students to the social and cultural aspects of communities and the food system. The overarching purpose of the Regional Student Leadership Development network is to prepare future citizen leaders of our communities, through the learning lens of the food system and civic mission of the land grant university.
